Helmets designed specifically for snowsports are a terrific idea.  Today’s helmets are warm, comfortable, light, and hearing well is not a problem.  Get a snug, but comfortable fit.  Great Divide rents helmets for just $5/day or $25/season.

There are a lot of different ways to dress for winter sports.  Some will keep you warmer than others.  Layering is the underlying principle.

Long Underwear
Ski Pants or Bib Pants (NO JEANS!)
Outer Layer Jacket

Preferable waterproof/breathable shell
Gloves or Mittens
Neck Gaiter
Turtleneck
Sweater or Fleece
Socks or Sock Liner

1 thin to medium weight par should do – no double layers, please
Vest (for insulation)
