Our History
Great Divide’s story began in 1941 as Belmont Ski Club, a small community hill built and run by passionate local skiers. For decades, families in Helena learned to ski here, volunteered here, and helped shape the character of the mountain.
In the 1980s, the Taylor Family guided Great Divide into a new era of growth — expanding terrain, adding lifts, and fostering the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that guests still feel today. Under their leadership, Great Divide became a beloved home mountain for thousands of families.
In 2020, Great Divide began a new chapter when it was purchased by the Crawford and Moran families, both deeply rooted in the Helena community. Their shared vision honors the mountain’s long-standing traditions while investing in its future — expanding snowmaking, enhancing terrain parks, improving guest facilities, and strengthening community partnerships.
Through every chapter, one thing has remained constant: Great Divide exists for the people who ski it. Local families built this mountain, grew it, and continue to shape its future.
